Welcome!

I would like to take a moment and thank you for stopping by the Forsyth Police SRO/DARE section of our website.  My name is Steve Huggins and I am the administrative Staff Sergeant for the department and the School Resource Officer/ DARE instructor for the Forsyth Schools.

This section was created to give you some basic insight into what I do as the SRO/DARE instructor for the Forsyth School District.  I teach the core curriculum of the DARE program to sixth graders at Forsyth Middle School.  I also respond to calls for service on campus and investigate criminal incidents, enforcing both city ordinances and state statutes.  I patrol the Elementary, Middle and High School buildings and grounds of the campus for security and general safety.  I have other duties and responsibilities in addition to those mentioned.

School Resource Officer

DARE Instructor

Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE)

is a drug prevention program taught by law enforcement officers in schools throughout the United States and in a number of foreign nations.

SST. Huggins's duties include providing law enforcement services to the schools, foot and mobile patrol, and attends conferences with students, parents and school staff.

SST. Steve Huggins has been the School Resource Officer (SRO)and DARE instructor for the Forsyth School District since 1995.

In my time as the SRO, I have developed a great rapport with the kids and interact with them daily.  Something that I thoroughly enjoy is being involved with the athletic programs as the public address announcer for the High School boys and girls basketball games.

Our department has also maintained a positive and cooperative working relationship with the school board, administration, faculty and staff of the district for many years and we are very appreciative of that.

I want you to know that I am available to students as well as parents and will do my best to answer any questions or concerns you may have.  Please feel free to contact me.  My office is in the Middle School and I can be reached at 417-546-6382, extension 229.  I can also be contacted by e-mail at

Again, thank you for stopping by.  GO PANTHERS!
